From law enforcement came reports that most of these okada riders were involved in criminal activities as armed robbers, kidnappers and informants. There are several reported cases where okada riders vanished with their passengers only for the passengers to be sold to ritualists. Yet, others were used as means of escape after robbery operations.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu: “Two weeks ago, we advertised the fourth mainland bridge project locally and internationally. Our total budget for next year is about $3 billion, and that’s the highest in the country. The fourth mainland bridge, from the design we have seen, is a 37 kilometre bridge. We cannot handle it alone, so we are going to use private equity. We have advertised, and we have the alignment; we have the right of way and all of the biometric study. Let everyone come and play a role.”
Babajide Sanwo-Olu said: “In the next two years, we are hoping to be able to do what we call, a Metropolitan Fibre Grid. We are hoping to have in the next two years about 6000kms of fibre; it’s a total mix, we want to mix the whole system. We want to have a smart city which we are. So we will be signing that before the end of this year or sometime early next year.”
