Olamide Adedeji was born on 15 March 1989. He’s Nigerian Hip-Hop recording artist and CEO of the YBNL Nation record label Olamide is loved by fans across West Africa who hail him as a king of rap. Recording mostly in his native Yoruba tongue and English, Olamide is the only Nigerian rapper in history to release six albums in six years.
The multi–talented artist is a constant feature at top awards ceremonies and has received nominations at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards, the Headies Awards, MTV Africa Music Awards and MTV EMAs. He makes his return to Coke Studio Africa for a second time, this year paired with South African artiste AKA. On Coke Studio Africa season 3, he collaborated with Marrabenta Queen from Mozambique, Neyma.
THE BIG BREAK
Olamide released his debut studio album “Rapsodi” in 2011, followed by the album “YBNL” (2012) under his label imprint YBNL Nation. Since breaking big in the industry, Olamide has released an album every year including “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth” (2013), “Street OT” (2014) and a joint album with fellow Nigerian Hip-Hop artiste and producer Phyno, “2 Kings” in 2015.
His 6th studio album, “The Glory” was the No 1 selling album on Billboard’s world album chart. He has worked with artistes such as Pasuma, Lil Kesh, Chinko Ekun, Phyno and Don. Olamide has built a strong brand and aside from the continent has also performed in the US, London, Malaysia and Europe.
WHEN PASSION MEETS TALENT
Olamide is one of the few rappers who doubles up as a record label executive. He is the CEO of independent record label and event management company YBNL Nation. The label has housed top Nigerian acts like Lil Kesh, Adekunle Gold and Viktoh.
Olamide has in the past expressed that music is deeply rooted in him and he cannot envision himself doing anything else, describing his music as “100% Naija”. Olamide looks forward to collaborating with Jay-Z, Ludacris, Drake and Lil’ Wayne someday. His musical success has earned him several ambassadorial and endorsement deals with companies like Etisalat, Hennessy, Globacom and Sterling Bank.
Olamide Adedeji was born in Bariga, Lagos and grew up in Ijebu, Ogun state. He fell in love with rap music as early as his Primary School days.
Discovering his skill that early gave him a chance to nurture and perfect his game. In 2000, he decided to pursue a career in music and rode into the limelight with his track Eni Duro.
